Our Story

Established in 1947, the venue originally started life as a hotel named (incorrectly) after Miss Havisham, the jilted bride in the Charles Dickens’ novel, ‘Great Expectations’. During the late 60’s and 70’s, the hotel bar became a regular haunt for Leeds United players during their glory years and a celebrity hotspot for the likes of British actress and blonde bombshell Diana Dors.

In the 1980’s the venue was the epicentre of the ‘nation’s Goth scene’ and a regular haunt for Gothic dark lords, Sister of Mercy and their fans. It later became one of the pioneering institutions in the UK burgeoning dance scene, with performances from house legends such as Carl Cox, Danny Tenaglia and Sasha way back in the 1980s.

Live Music

During the early 2000s, due to its intimate setting, The Faversham played an instrumental role in the North’s Indie music scene providing a platform for hundreds of grassroot DJs and bands including live performances from now world-renowned artists, such as the Arctic Monkeys, The Streets, Hot Chip and Franz Ferdinand to mention but a few.

Today

To this day The Faversham is still independently owned and is now a dedicated multi-purpose events space. The unique character of the building lends itself to conferences, meetings, away days, awards dinners, summer parties, Christmas parties, product launches, photoshoots, fashion shows and more. It is also the perfect setting for many private celebrations ranging from birthday parties, weddings, wedding receptions and family occasions.
